Falling In Love With Your Skincare Routine

If you sit on the sofa comfortably of an evening, trying to think of an excuse as to why you shouldn’t get up and do your skincare routine but instead watch an extra episode on Netflix, then this post is for you! I wanted to explain my tips for making your skincare routine enjoyable and not a chore. Personally, there is nothing I love more than investing time into my skin and starting and ending each day applying products to make my skin the best version of itself. However, I am fully aware that my skincare routine often becomes quite a lengthy one and not everyone has the time, or desire, to spend 30 minutes or more on their skincare routine each evening.

I wanted to do this post for those people, the people who want good skin (everyone deserves it, after all) but want to achieve it in as little time as possible, and actually find comfort in doing so.

1. Have a continuous time slot that suits your lifestyle. 

If you have a dedicated period in the evening when that is your time for you and your skin, it will slowly become second nature and another one of your daily tasks. I like to remove my makeup as soon as I can when I get home. I always do it when I get changed and my rule is to never get into bed with my makeup on (It’s a lot harder to get out of bed once you're in it!)  



2. Shut out the outside world. 

Try and relax and block out any distractions when applying your skincare. Even if it’s just for five minutes. Whether that means leaving your phone outside the bathroom or just trying to calm your mind from all the thoughts that may be flying around your head. Shut yourself in the bathroom for some peace, light a candle, whatever you like to do... this is time for you.


3. Overnight masks.

These are a true skincare saviour! Once your skin is thoroughly cleansed, apply an overnight mask onto your skin and feel it working as you snuggle up under the duvet. You can get various masks to suit your skins needs and you don’t have to spend the 10-20 mins waiting to wash it off. Let it work whilst you sleep and your skin will love you for it! 4. Use products that you enjoy. 

This one may seem obvious but it’s an important one. The products you choose to use obviously have a big impact on your attitude and loyalty to your skincare routine. Therefore, it’s no surprise that if you don’t enjoy using a product, you won’t be in a hurry to apply it each night. For example, if you find that the exfoliator you use strips your skin and is too harsh, or the cleanser you have has a smell that you strongly dislike, try and find products that are going to change this for you. There are a lot of brands now that offer samples for you to try, go to a store or counter and this way you can be sure that you are going to love everything about a product! 

 

5. Note the difference and it will motivate you to keep going.

This one is the biggest motivator to keep you dedicated to your skincare routine. Whether you have a specific skin concern or not, I guarantee that if you don’t have a skincare routine but start to apply one, you will see the positive impact it has on your skin. I’m not talking overnight, but try and take a picture of your skin weekly and compare each week as it goes by. Results are the biggest motivator and once you see your skin becoming the best version of itself, you won’t want to be the one to stop it in its tracks!
